Wonder Bread Series

The greatest thing since sliced bread -- Free Wacky Packages!  Back in the glory days, you could get a free sticker with a loaf of Wonder Bread. There were three different Wacky Wonderbread sets put out from 1973 to 1975.  The first set included 24 titles chosen from original series 1-4, and the stickers had their own unique copyright.

In the second and third sets, Wonderbread stickers carried the same copyrights as their original counterparts, and most cannot be told apart from regular wackies.  Although many are often found due to greasy stains from the bread.

The second Wacky Wonder Bread set, issued in 1974, came from original series 1-7.  And the third set in 1975 used titles from series 4-10.

All Wonderbread stickers have tan backs.  The first set had no asterisks before the copyright.  The second and third Wonderbread sets all had one asterisk (*), except for Tied, Lavirus, and Gadzooka had none.  So any Wacky with two asterisks (**) is definitely NOT a Wonderbread.

A Display Poster was found for the initial series, telling us to look for specially marked wrappers.  However, I feverishly sought this set in 1973, and I can tell you that I never came across a marked wrapper.  You had to twist and squeeze every loaf in the store to find the ones with wackies inside.
